Worm HolesDo you notice a galaxy billions of light years away that looks like an inhabitable planet? In cases, like this, how can you ever get there even if you are traveling at the speed of light? The answer is that it is theoretically possible to travel through shortcuts in space called worm holes. Curvature in space, shaped much like a funnel, connect various galaxies together. It is analogous to walking through a mountain tunnel versus going around. It is faster to go through the tunnel and you don’t have to travel as fast. Some scientists believe that worm holes could be used for time travel by accelerating one end of the worm hole. And, while time travel creates paradoxes that seem irresolvable, some scientists believe that the Novikov Self-Sufficiency Principle or the idea of branching parallel universes can help solve these paradoxes. |
