Calvin Zhou is a driven and innovative high school student deeply passionate about the intersection of technology and innovation, focusing on the environment, artificial intelligence, and education.

My Story

Calvin's research endeavors reflect his dedication to leveraging technology for societal good. He developed A2D2: an AI-driven Autonomous Drone-based Detection network for wildfires, which automates wildfire detection and drone flight using advanced computer vision, deep reinforcement learning, and path planning algorithms. This project received valuable feedback and recognition from CalFire, the USDA Forest Service, NASA, and various local and state-wide fire departments. The paper on this research was accepted into the 12th International Conference on Advanced Robotics and Intelligent Systems (ARIS 2024), while the project won 3rd place at the 2024 NFTE (Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship) World Series of Innovation, placing in the top 0.3% internationally. This summer, Calvin is further advancing his research at MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory Beaverworks Institute.

Another notable project developed by Calvin is the development of a blockchain and IoT sensor-based emissions trading and monitoring system, which received recognition from the California Air and Resources Board and professors. This innovative solution addresses environmental justice issues and was presented at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) 2023 during the SDG Action Weekend and earned multiple science fair awards. Additionally, Calvin is currently working on a block-coding educational environment for teaching, learning, and prototyping AI. This project was accepted for presentation at the MIT AI & Education Summit and the 2024 International Conference on Sustainable Development (ICSD), demonstrating his continual commitment to technological innovation while making AI education more accessible and understandable.

As Student Body President, Calvin oversees major school-wide culture and charity events, coordinates with school administration, and represents the student body on the Intradistrict Council. Calvin's leadership extends beyond his school through his role as Co-Founder and CEO of W3B Education, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This organization empowers students worldwide with education in business, entrepreneurship, innovation, and cutting-edge technologies like AI and blockchain. Under Calvin's leadership, W3B Education has designed impactful curricula and partnered with global companies to host weekly workshops, reaching over 2000 students in 22 countries. The organization also hosts conferences featuring esteemed speakers such as professors, CEOs, startup leads, and Congressional advisors.

Beyond academics and research, Calvin is active in various clubs and the varsity badminton team. Additionally, Calvin pursues his passion for photography, specializing in professional event photography.
