Bryan Zhu is a driven innovator, harnessing the power of computer science and technology to solve real-world problems like diabetes management, with a passion for impactful leadership and transformative research.

He is the Founder T1TI - Type 1 Together Initiative - a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to nurturing an inclusive and supportive community for youth grappling with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). The core mission is to extend comprehensive educational and support services to not only those directly impacted by T1D, but also to their families and caregivers. The project aims to empower each member of our community to overcome the hurdles presented by T1D and lead fulfilling lives.

My Story

With Honorable Mentions on the USAJMO twice, he is also deeply passionate about math, including designing an improved math-based genetic algorithm for the traveling salesman problem, which he first-authored and solely presented at the IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation. While STEM is his primary focus, he supplements his technical pursuits with advocacy, such as founding a nonprofit for diabetes awareness, and mentorship, coaching debate and tutoring international students. Ultimately, he aims to drive innovation in science, blending technical rigor with a commitment to real-world impact.

Bryan envisions attending a top university as the next step toward combining his passion for science and social impact. He aspires to make life with chronic conditions such as diabetes easier by advancing cutting-edge research and advocating for social justice. Inspired by his personal experience with type 1 diabetes, he aims to create more innovations like AI-powered blood glucose forecasting models in the future. In college, he plans to delve deeper into bioinformatics, computer science, and math, focusing on practical applications. Beyond his studies, he hopes to collaborate with peers, mentors, and diverse communities to develop equitable solutions for those living with chronic conditions.

Ultimately, Bryan envisions a career where he bridges the gap between scientific discovery and public health, developing technologies that empower individuals while advocating for systemic change. His long-term dream is to see a world where chronic conditions are not barriers to thriving but rather opportunities to innovate and achieve equity.
